This weekend was one for the books. A quick recap, shall we?

FRIDAY

After work I went for a pedi. The goal was to only have a pedi because who keeps long nails in a work place as mine?

Jokes on me 😹. I left the nail parlour with relatively long nails. Now I’m here struggling to do even the least of tasks🤣. Kama this is the baby girl lifestyle y’all are talking about, I’m not sure I want it. Anyway, they look so good that I might actually add this to my budget.

SATURDAY

I finally started a project that I have been quite afraid of starting. This should be the inaugural of what I hope to be my greatest achievement in 2023. Making the slight step I made on Saturday has me so happy and proud of myself. Success is truly on the other side of fear!

SUNDAY

In the evening, I boarded a matatu. It was quite empty and therefore I had to wait for it to get full. Normally, there are hawkers within the stage that knock on the windows to attract one’s attention. I’m used to them knocking so I don’t even turn when they do.

While scrolling through Snapchat or was I watching ‘The Sinner‘?, a random man knocked on my window quite violently. I was shocked. For a moment I thought it was a gang trying to distract me. This man then shouted “wewe unaitwa na hawa na hata huwaangalii?”. ‘Hawa’ in this context are the hawkers. “Shida yenu hamjalelewa kwa umaskini kwa hivyo mko na maringo sana.” Man went on and on about how I was disrespecting the hawkers by not looking at them when they knocked.

One thing I noted is that this guy was not a hawker. I therefore don’t understand why he was talking with so much bitterness. Maybe he’s their activist, I wouldn’t know. However every day I’m reminded that people everywhere are bitter and are waiting for the slightest outlet to let out their bitterness. Quite often, the outlet is a totally unrelated subject. So what do you do when you are the subject?

You have the option of clapping back, you also have the option of ignoring them. Of the two, which do you find to be the better option?
