I’LL COME BACK

02/05/2022
Today is the penultimate day of the 5-day adult mid-term we’ve been enjoying in Kenya. I know we just came back from the Easter break, but this one was very much deserved. I’m quite happy this break came at a time the semester hadn’t yet gained momentum so I’ve had my time on Netflix.
For a public holiday, this has been a productive day for me. I got to put down my to-do list for the week, something I haven’t done in months. I do love the lady I’m becoming 🤣.

Yesterday I got my passport. FINALLY!!! I’d really waited for it, mpaka it reached a point that I believed the bribe theory that had been making rounds on SM😂. Turns out my passport was ready a long time ago. I however had not booked for its collection, hence the delay. Not booking for collection was not my fault; I just didn’t know. You also probably don’t know you need to, so let me put you in the know.
Once you’ve had your biometrics taken, wait for like a fortnight. Be careful not to throw away the invoice copy you’ll be given as well as the receipt with your tracking number. You’ll need them, to collect your passport. While taking my biometrics, I’d been told that the passport would be ready in 2 weeks and that I would get a text informing me of the same (the text was not sent🙄). After the 2 weeks, visit this site and key in the required details. Your blue document will be at your preferred post office, 48 business hours after the date of collection you’ll have selected. In my opinion, the booking and collection process wasn’t as hectic as I thought it would be.

In the recent past, I’ve come across several sad stories of teens that can’t get to their high schools because of one reason or the other. What broke me most was the story of the girl that trekked 50+kms to get to her high school, with nothing. She was so determined to further her education that she wasn’t going to allow anything to hold her back. That really is not fair. Children shouldn’t be struggling that much to access decent education. I pray that God will bless me enough, to be such children’s guardian angel in the years to come. I know I’ll come back to this post and be glad that I’ll then be in a position to help.

These last 2 days have had me thinking a lot about being a newspaper columnist. This is an idea I’ve toyed with in the past, but now I know I want to live it. I know I would make a really good columnist on your favorite newspaper. I already know what I’ll be writing about. Hata I’m not asking for as much airtime as Caroline Njung’e’s or Mwalimu Andrew’s. I’m asking for 250 words only, for starters. If you work with Nation or Standard please reach out 🥺.

Finally, I’ve found myself wanting to interact with different cultures. So I’ve been listening to songs from different communities and wow I dare say our cultures are still so rich. It is our responsibility to ensure they don’t die with us. Personally, I want to learn the Meru culture and ensure I pass it to my children. I’ve even been thinking of putting together a Meru cultural week or something like that and make it a frequent event. Nandi ndathithia bukeeja?!?
