I’M EXTRA!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I’m asking this out of curiosity. Do you have a YouTube playlist??? Because I do. To add to it, I have several of them. I have one for Gospel songs, I have another for the secular ones, another two for songs that we’ll dance to at my graduation and wedding parties, I have a recipe playlist, a hymnals playlist and a couple others. They are like 14 of them, in total. Yeah I’m that extra, guys! So before I started typing this, I was jamming to Patoranking’s “Girlie O”, featuring Tiwa Savage and just before that I’d been listening to “No Kissing Baby”, still Patoranking’s, featuring Sarkodie. I am not sure what exactly is going through your mind at this point, it better not be a judgmental thought๐Ÿ™„, but yooo don’t you think Afrobeats are such a vibe?!? The energy in these videos and even the songs is so much that you just CANNOT ignore it. Ok maybe this whole paragraph is pointless because playlists and Afrobeats are CERTAINLY not the agenda for this blog, lakini at times kudigress ni must. Right?!?

We are on blog/episode 3 now, with one more (or maybe two…I can never be too sure๐Ÿ˜‚) to go. I’m so happy because I know this has been an educative and provocative series-at least I could tell from the littu feedback I’ve received so far. We’ve done major types of Cancer, why you need to get screened and today let’s discuss forms of treatment, if you ready like I’m ready(If you’ve sung this statement as opposed to reading it, can we be best friends? Because I already like you)

Cancer is NOT a death sentence. It is a chronic disease, but it can be treated while in its early stages, and also can be managed for quite a while. I know,no scratch that,I can actually see those questions crossing your mind, about Cancer not being a death sentence๐ŸŒš. Honey, just go online and search for stories of Cancer Warriors. You’ll find several of them, at least enough to make you change your mind.

By the time a patient is getting down to Cancer treatment, there are a number of factors that are considered.

  • The Cancer type – I mean, this goes unmentioned.
  • How advanced the Cancer is – Stage 1 and Stage 4 Cancer treatments will be different.
  • The patient’s age, health – The elderly will more often than not be exempted from chemos, radios and surgery; then, the body is a bit too delicate for such.

SURGERY : In the first blog, I talked of how lumps are a symptom of some cancers. So surgery is used to treat those types of cancer. The surgeon will either take out just the lumps or the whole body part affected by the Cancer – depending on how much the Cancer has advanced at the time of surgery.

CHEMOTHERAPY : I must admit that this and radio were for the longest time, phenomenons I never really understood until early this year. Chemo is the drugs given to the patient to either kill the Cancer cells or slow their growth. They can be directly administered to the blood vein through a needle, or taken as pills. Just like treatment for other diseases, chemo has its side effects. You thought Cancer causes hair loss?!? Imagine I also did. Now erase that thought, and know that hair loss is a side effect of Chemotherapy. Other effects are nausea, appetite loss, anaemia, just to name a few.

RADIOTHERAPY : This name is just shouting radiations and yeah that’s basically what radiotherapy entails. Radio can be given via a machine outside your body, which is more or less like an X-ray, or an implant put inside the body(near or in the tumour itself). In some cases, both might be used. Its side effects are skin irritation and tiredness that can extend to several weeks after treatment.

It is advised that you always consult your oncologist, in the event where any concerns, even the slightest, arise.

LOVE : Cancer can really take a toll on someone, therefore patients need to be constantly reminded that they are loved. Get their house-hold shopping done for them, take them out for a concert, watch a movie…just do anything that will raise their moods.

SUPPORT : I don’t need to explain how draining Cancer treatment is, financially. So this is not the time to just pray and encourage them and then leave – I’m not underestimating the power of prayer/faith but then James 2:14-17. You get??? Spare your coins for them, find donors for them (of course with their consent), do what you can to ease the financial burden on their backs and those of their family members.

MEDITATION : Create an environment for the patient to stay still and meditate. Meditation is one way I feel reduces emotional stress. A massage, maybe a nature walk, a counselling session…such activities will be of great help.

PRAYER : Prayer is an essential, not just in sickness but also in health!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
