PERKS B02

When in high school I was very excited for campus. I know we all had exciting thoughts of how beautiful life in campus would be. Well, life here is still amazing but NOT as amazing as we were made to believe through those brochures and the movies we watched😪

Campus is that place where you are just chilled one minute and the next you have 6 undone assignments due in two hours, a meeting with your project’s supervisor in thirty minutes, a test in one hour and LOADS OF SLEEP!!! At times I’ve found myself thinking out loud ‘WHERE DID TIME FLY TO???’

I partly have myself to blame because I am one of those people who will barely work on anything until the clock starts ticking(I promised to change in jana’s blog btw 😁).But also campus is no joke mahn.

“The out there you’ve always been told about is now here”. A speaker said this during our closing assembly after completing KCSE. This out there had been talked about by literally every adult that found a chance to talk to us especially in form four. So for me out there was a synonym of freedom. And freedom I got in campus.

Yaani there’s so much freedom that I’ve had to be my own disciplinarian. For instance it is very easy to miss a whole semester and only show up for CATs and exams. I mean your parents are miles away(not in all cases tho’) and lying over the phone is not a big task. Or is it??? I’d say self-discipline is the best companion while at the university.

My people, peer pressure is real. For me, campus has offered both negative and positive peer pressure. I have friends who’ve always challenged me to unleash my potential and they actually believe in me more than I believe in myself. On the other hand, I have others who are just full of negative vibes. You probably are wondering why I still call them friends. Here’s why:

  • I’d love to be the one that helps them turn around. The one that helps them realize there’s more fun than what they term as fun.
  • I feel I’m too young to completely cut off people from my life. It’s not like this far anyone has hurt me so much that I need to cut all links with them.

A good network is everything in this day and age. I’m glad my school environment has offered me an opportunity to create as many networks as I want. Just the other day I was realising that I have a friend or two in several fields. Is that not a BLESSING?!?

Being an introvert is a personality that we can almost not change. I know this because I am one. However I don’t like this concept in many youths, that they are comfortable alone. I believe we all need an amazing network of friends. Otherwise, how are you going to get clients for your business? Or people to go out with? Or classmates to help you in class? Or a bridal team to make your wedding lit?

You get why everyone needs a good network??? So I’m here to tell every prospective and current campus student that they need to network and campus is the most amazing breeding ground for that.

So when I was joining campus I had a bucket list of what I wanted to achieve in campus. I have already done some and I’m yet to accomplish others. Lemme share with you just what I’m comfortable sharing;

  1. Graduate when I’m expected to
  2. Make road trips out of town
  3. Dress up for dates
  4. Put a smile on people’s faces
  5. Learn sign language
  6. Find a life partner by the time I’m graduating (I recently scrapped this off because kwani kuolewa ni must???😐)

This leads us to today’s Bible Verse. We all have plans for our future. Also God has plans for us. Therefore it is always amazing to ask for God’s guidance when making your plans because He brings some favour that you cannot fathom and that attracts nations to you 😊.

Also may this new year teach you new lessons and may the years to come bring pure joy and peace💜.
