LESSONS FROM BIKO

Heeeyyyy!!!

Is it just me ama this last quarter has literally flown by. I keeennnttt mbiliv we are in November already. It’s just juzi I started my second semester and in a minute I’m already preparing for my exams. Yaani it’s just jana I was hyping my friends for Konshens concert (never mind I didn’t attend 😂) and now I’m already planning for December because for me is gonna be parte after parte 🎊.

Ok I DIGRESS!!!

You probably have opened this link, (thanks for that by the way 😃) but you don’t have an idea who Bikozulu is. I won’t tell you about him because I just ain’t about that. Instead, lemme direct you to his latest art, A short love story and find out for yourself, why I’m having a whole blog about him. After that, trust me you’ll always have a reason to look forward to Tuesdays because he adds spice to them mahn 💥.

To my fellow Biko followers I had like an hour in the same room with him, listening to him and trying to match his face with the face I’d made up in my mind. Trust me the two faces hazikuwa zinadiffer sana.

How did I end up to meet him, you ask??? Well, thanks to the Rotaract clubs of Karura & Nairobi Parklands. Rotaract is such a vibe you guys and if you ain’t a rotaractor/rotarian yet, you just need to be one. So yeah during one of their fellowships, they had the one and only BikoZulu as their guest speaker. I try as much as possible to avoid town during weekdays especially in the evenings because the craze there is too much. But who was going to miss this SPECIAL fellowship??? Certainly not me!!!

18th of September dawned. It was a Wednesday so I went about my normal routine;you know attending classes, group discussions, chilling with my friends and all.

I attended the fellowship in the company of my favs Keller and Jelagat ❤.So being the Kenyans we are, we decided to leave our hostel at 1730hrs. After all it doesn’t hurt being late by like half an hour. Or does it??? This decision almost cost us the fellowship.

We got to Clarion Hotel at like 15 past 6.That was quite early for us we even were proud of ourselves. Not until we found the long queue outside the room the fellowship would be held. My guy, the room set aside for this fellowship was so full such that hardly had we found ourselves space inside than the the doors were closed. THE ROOM COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE ANYMORE PEOPLE.

So here I was, ready to savor every moment spent listening to he who is so good at descriptions. Biko will use 100 words to describe a wine glass and trust me, you’ll find yourself reading through each word 🤣.

Read. Digest. Drink.

Now to the main subject of this blog. I got to pick a number of tips from him, that I would love to share with you. So read through 😁:

1.You can only control what is inside you. Once it leaves your hands/mouth you just can’t change it anymore. This was in response to a question on whether he’d received any backlash after publishing a blog. Of course he had. But knowing that you have no control over what you’ve let out into the world saves you alot of trouble and even regret.

2.Don’t allow yourself to be controlled by outside forces. An attendee had asked him why he wasn’t writing about the then ongoing xenophobia in South Africa.Jackson(btw there’s an interesting fact behind how he was named) replied that just because it was the hot topic in town, that wasn’t reason enough for him to write about it. This actually reminds me how much we compromise our limits just to please those around us. That’s a perfect example of allowing external forces control us.

3.Chema chajiuza kibaya chajitembeza.I actually had forgotten this methali until he mentioned it while trying to explain how he’d managed to attract so many followers and bag the several contracts he has. Simply be AUTHENTIC!!!

4.Excuse me sis, BOLT at the first red flag. An avid reader of his work (the Tuesday blogs especially) will tell you he talks to married people; they open up to him about their marriages. Several of the stories he’s covered are about ladies who ignored red flags at the onset of their relationships and that cost them so much. He also advised the men in the room not to wife a lady majorly because of her beauty.

5.Patience. Patience. Patience.

Now that we are in the ‘microwave generation’ we are not patient enough. We want to start a business today and tomorrow make a a profit worth millions. We are not ready to trust the process and live through the toughness of life. It will interest you to know that it took Biko a whole four years before he started earning from his blogs.

6.Be Disciplined!!!

Success requires so much discipline. Discipline is when you do something you know you are supposed to be doing in as much as you don’t want to do it. Biko stated that we, his readers are so demanding that he has to wake up at 0630hrs on a SUNDAY MORNING to put together the next blog. Mind you, he does not always want to write but he is disciplined enough to put something together even in such times.

7.“You look too young for your age Biko.” Someone commented. He replied that he takes great care of himself. He is very spiritual and will therefore create time to pray, on a daily basis. He reads a lot and exercises severally in a week because tizi ni poa.

Two things that stood out for me about him were;

a). He understood he was talking to a group of youths. Therefore, he did more of Q&A session which I feel was very efficient. From the lessons above, don’t you think so too???

b). He leads such a low-key life. You won’t see photos of him anywhere. He explained that he loves his chilled life where you don’t have people walking all around you and insisting on taking selfies with you. Actually we even weren’t allowed to take photos during that fellowship. The poster??? Just see below 👇🏿

So creative…yeah!!!

In my last post,✨WEMA ✨, I came up with a to-do list. Girl has only done 1 out of the 3 items on the list because October has just been hectic!!! I’ll try working on the other 2 some time.

~Haya Bible vibes~
