SAFARI ✨

It’s been an year now 🎊

This should be the only journey that I haven’t experienced any challenges with 😂 I’m serious btw…

So when I was starting off, I got a direct go ahead from my parents…yaani we even didn’t discuss it. Mum was like “It’s your life sweetheart. Do as you please😊”. However, I have to admit for dad it was quite different😂. You know I couldn’t tell what his response would be so I decided to beat around the bush. “Dad I want to change my hair style to look like Kinya’s” I said after rehearsing these words in my mind for long 😂.If you have typical African parents I know you feel me😉. A month later, from the blues he responded.“Btw Kinya’s hair looks good. Yeah you can try out the hair style” Oooh how happy I was. Just like that I started my loc journey.

My bad 🤦🏿‍♀. Kinya is a friend who also has really cute locs. She’s been having them for close to 2 or so years now.

You know this stereotype of guys with locs having a close relationship with weed??? Heee si I have been a victim of the stereotype 🙆🏿‍♀. Mpaka a friend asked me “Eeei babe uko sure huvutangi bangi??? Na vile your lips are dark” Yaani that day I had to look myself in the mirror just to be sure my lips aren’t so dark.

“Eisht mras…niaje” I’m so used to this by now I don’t even find it offensive.I actually shake my head kiasi just to show off my locs. Halafu there is this happiness that comes with meeting other ladies in locs, especially with locs longer than mine. I’m always like “girl, you are goals!!!”

Halafu si locs have saved me the agony of visiting the salon. Ok I still do, but now it ain’t as tedious as it used to be. You know the stress of having to think of the next hair style to put on…mara the agony of sitting in the salon for hours especially for a tall lady like me who needs to stretch her legs every so often 😂…halafu when you think the salonist is almost done anadivide hutu tunywele twa hapa mbele more times than she’s divided the rest of the hair 😭…then as if that’s not enough you spend 2 sleepless nights sababu your head is in so much pain(I have a very sensitive scalp) 🤦🏿‍♀.Imagine with my hair now I don’t have to go through that hell 🤭.

I had the option of keeping it natural. I actually tried it for a month or so. But my dear reader I’m too lazy to dedicate 15 minutes on my hair, daily. Thazzzz too much workload for me.

There’s this katabia I’ve developed over time, of touching my hair for no reason really. I’ll be in class and before I know it am playing with my short locs 😂. If you follow Yummy Mummy you’ll realize she also does the same. So let’s conclude that it’s a thing in the loc community you won’t understand.

Let’s see what more this journey has in store for me 😅.
