Your existence one minute from now is not guaranteed!

Just this evening, the death of one of Kenya’s past prominent cabinet secretaries has been confirmed by his family. This has shocked me so much especially because I have never heard news of his sickness. The past few weeks also brought with them sudden deaths of two other great men of this soil.

These deaths have left me thinking of how delicate life is. It is like chaff; easily blown away by the wind. One minute you are having fun with someone, hours later you are informed of their demise. Therefore I have purposed to live this moment; it is what I am truly guaranteed of.

I’ll let her know that I like her outfit. I’ll tell him of how amazing his voice is. I’ll congratulate them for their great achievement. I’ll iron things out with her if I feel I’m on the wrong. My aim is to ensure that each moment I spend with people, I don’t leave with any grudges or unsolved issues with them. I challenge you to do the same 😌.

Also, I’ll be more intentional on seeing that these undated dates I’m always setting actually happen. I’m sorry if you are reading this and I haven’t set a date for our proposed hang-out😂. Acha nikutext saa hii tu.

I’ve come to this petrol station to get an ETR receipt I left yesterday. The attendants are quite busy and so I decide to ask the guard to help me get the receipt. Our conversation goes like this;

Makena: Habari?

Guard: Mzuri

Makena: Niliacha receipt hapa jana. Niulizie tafadhali.

Guard: (Walks closer and looks at the car keenly) Naona kama nilikuona hapa jana. Ooh kumbe gari si yako?

Makena: (Caught off guard by the response and low-key offended) Mbona?

Guard: (Lost in his world) Kama unataka receipt si unataka kujulisha mtu, ama?

Makena: (I now start to realize he didn’t mean to be offensive. He just didn’t understand why I wanted the receipt or much worse, he doesn’t know what a receipt is) Kwani tutalipa mafuta aje?

Guard: Oooh ni ya kulipa?

This has me laughing because what on earth is ‘kumbe gari si yako?’. Lol, yeah the gari is not mine but must you shout?!?😹

Moral of the story, guards will strip you off the little energy you have left in you🤣.
