LOCATION
Culture Cafe is located along Muhoho Avenue, just opposite the South C mosque. If using public means from the CBD, board the matatus plying the Moi – Nairobi West route and alight at the Muhoho – Mai Mahiu road junction. From there, it’ll take you roughly 5 minutes to get to the restaurant.
They don’t have a set parking lot, therefore if using private means, you are likely to either find a spot to park your car or not.
FIRST IMPRESSION
I first came across the restaurant on one mid-morning, while running my errands. I remember thinking to myself ‘ooh wow that’s a kanice spot for breakfast’. The warm lighting that could be seen from outside, defined coziness and I did experience that during my visit.
I loved the place immediately I stepped in. This was mainly because it was not packed. Packed places, especially while on solo dates, make me quite uneasy.
The restaurant has beautiful aesthetics, that add to one’s experience there. I love interior decoration and so I had a field day trying to decipher what the decorator had in mind while putting together the cafe.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
The service was average; not over the bar. I did not wait long to be served, and Adeline did a great job explaining their dishes.
I love open plan kitchen concepts. Culture has an open kitchen and I enjoyed watching them put together the meals served. Let me not lie tho’. I only stole glances because I was engrossed in ‘When the Crow Flies’, available on Netflix.
MENU
Culture concentrates on making Somali foods. I however didn’t try the seemingly new dishes for me, because I am not adventurous with food. I promise, am working on changing that 😂. In fact, invite me to join you the next time you’ll be experiencing exotic dishes. I need to diversify my palate.
- Pineapple Mint juice – I could taste both the pineapple and mint. That was an elite drink, because despite sipping on it for almost an hour, the pineapple and mint tastes were not watered down by the melting ice cubes.
- Chicken Kathi roll – I love wrapped dishes and I will always order them, when they are available. The spices used (hata I couldn’t tell them😂), added so much flavor to the rolls. The kathi was served with lemon slices, whose juice elevated their taste. In all honesty, I was left yearning for more.
- Fries – Nothing extra-ordinary about them. Just your typical fries.
- Cinnamon rolls – At my big age, that was the first time I was having cinnamon rolls. I thought it would be served with the glaze, we see on our favorite food influencers’ pages, and I was low-key disappointed when it was not. However, I would definitely order the roll on my next visit.
Culture is an ideal place for;
a. Catching up with work colleagues after a long day in the office
b. Business meetings with a partner or potential client
c. Dates – There was a couple seated right next to me
