Happy New Year!!!
I’m actually typing this way before Christmas so that I don’t have an excuse to not get back to writing in 2022. I want to put it out there that I’m planning to be more consistent with my writing this year, than I have been in the past 2 years.
You guys, this is my last year in campus. It has been a long time coming, heh! I am more excited about finishing school, than I am anxious. Now that I’m getting done with 8-4-4 this year, I declare that I will ‘Finish Strong’. I affirm that God will provide the mental and physical grit that I need to get to the finish line strongly.
I had declared that 2021 would be my ‘Year of Excellence’, and it actually was🎉. So cheers to speaking excellence over ourselves and living in it.
My ‘comeback’ post is about resolutions, but aki please don’t leave at this moment. I bet you’ve been reading about resolutions for a while now and at this moment you don’t give a mmmmm abourit😂.
Early last year, I was having one of those low moments. Therefore I decided to have my first try at making resolutions, because everyone else was doing that; they were creating fancy mood boards and so it looked like such a fun activity. So while making my 2021 resolutions, I really wasn’t intending to work on achieving them. I however believe in prayer and so I asked God to help me achieve most if not all of those resolutions. God did just that, I found myself working on achieving a couple of them!
This being a new year, you need to pick a new habit or make a decision that will make you a better person. Resolutions are not preserved for January and you can therefore make yours, even if you are reading this post in October. Here are some of the new habits that I have decided to take up in 2022. You might decide to pick them as well, and if you pick as much as one, please do let me know so that we can keep each other accountable.
Procrastination is a habit I have that I have no idea where it stemmed from. I took quite some time last year trying to figure out its root cause, to no success. If you’ve been here for a while, you will remember that I have talked about my fight against procrastination before. Nowadays, memes on procrastination trigger me so much because there’s nothing funny about them. It can very easily dull your bright future. This is a plea for help. If you have any resources that will be helpful for me, kindly share them with me. This year, my first resolution is to fight procrastination.
I have never thought much about the power of affirmation, until when I realized that my affirmation to live an excellent year, came to be. Now, you just don’t affirm something and chill for it to happen. No one is coming to help you and you therefore need to put in the work. However, affirmations set your mind to focusing and working on what you want to achieve. A few days ago, I came across Numbers 14:28 and that’s when I knew I needed to work on consistently affirming myself in this year.
Let this be the year you will look back and be grateful that you went for what you wanted, despite the hurdles you came across. Chances are that what you want might not turn out as you had imagined it would, but the excitement and fulfillment of having gone for it will keep you going. So in 2022 allow the world to be your play ground and try playing as many games as you would want to. The world will definitely align in your favor; it always does so, for those that consistently chase their hearts’ desires. PS: This specific one is meant for me, more than it’s meant for you all reading this.
We are consistently encouraged to clap for others until it is our turn to be clapped for. I totally endorse that and I therefore always make sure to celebrate people around me. However, will your turn to be clapped for ever show up, if you are not working?!? I have realized that nothing in life comes on a silver platter. Even those quick motivational guides to success require you to work so as to be successful. So as you clap for your friends, keep working on the side, because that’s the only surest way to be clapped for as well.
The last days of 2021 had me trying to create a morning and evening routine. The routines have helped me have some control of my day, which I find to be quite exciting. I however haven’t been able to 100% stick to these routines but I’m very hopeful that by the end of the first quarter of this year, I’ll be acing that. Thinking of it, probably this is how self-disciplined people are built, no?
Having gone through five of my top resolutions, which one would you want to adopt? What resolution have you made and is not on my list? Please comment.
Finally, the difference between making a resolution and working on achieving it, is the will to act on it. Getting the will to act on something is as hard as it is easy because you are the only one that can push yourself to have the will.
I pray that this will be the best year you’ve ever lived and the least best that you’ll ever live!
NUMBERS 14:28
So tell them, As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:
