FEBRUARY 2020

Usiwatrust!

I’ve felt so good starting this post with that one word, gosh! Anyway, how are you doing? I’m happy that this time I’ll be taking chance of the Nairobi Burger Week Festival, for once…FOR ONCE guys!!! All this week, that’s what I’ve been thinking about. The well done patties, the crunchy lettuce, the cheese and the buns; heee I love buns. I’ve mentioned these ones because hizi tu ndo najuanga zinakuwanga kwa burgers. I’d say they are the basic ingredients, the rest vary.

Flashback to last year February. This is otherwise known as ‘The Month of Love’.

Then I was still at Meru Hospice. Everyday once I get to the office, that would be the topic of discussion. Ok not really, but it was a sure bet that we would discuss Valentine’s somewhere in between the day. In retrospect, we actually spread love to two families in that month so there was every reason to be discussing Valentine’s and its extravagance. The Valentine’s extravagance is very NECESSARY.

Among my workmates was a babe my age. (She will be today’s Tee*). She was the only one my age so we definitely clicked very fast. Heee huyu msichana ni mchochezi🤣. When the Valentine’s is coming parody by Kabusa Oriental Choir hit the airwaves, we discussed this song, in an effort to make ourselves feel better about not having Valentine’s dates. Let me tell you Maina, the hype around Valentine’s can get on your nerves especially if you don’t have a date.

Don’t get me wrong. I love love. I love watching kings go out of their way to make their queens wear their crowns proudly. I love watching queens posting photos of themselves with their swirats and adding the lovey-dovey captions. So in as much as we were trying to console ourselves, I was very happy and excited for people I saw celebrating love.

I remember at some point Tee and I went to do some shopping. You know around that time supermarkets have so many Valentine’s hampers. So us we took our time marveling at the hampers and commenting ‘Love is a beautiful thing’. This girl loves teddy bears and she even showed me one that she would get, for herself.

A couple of days later, I found out that my girl was in a very happy relationship🤣. No I didn’t feel sad about it, I was happy for her, instead. Thinking about it now, had we changed positions, I would do the same. I wouldn’t say I’m dating unless explicitly asked. I would not want to be the one rubbing it in on other people that I’m dating. I’m presuming she thought that’s what she’d be doing by making it clear that she’s dating and so doesn’t relate with not having a date.

My point in this whole article is usiwatrust. These people that are always tweeting ‘men are trash’ and statements in line with that, are highly likely to be in happy relationships.

Last month there was a lot of conversation on whether Valentine’s is overrated. My 2 cents on that, it is not overrated!!! All that effort that goes into the day is totally worth it.

My face is now clearing up and I’m grateful for that. It’s been a journey of nine long years. Maybe I’ll talk about my journey with acne either here or on the podcast. Just maybe.

Speaking of the podcast. On Sunday, God-willing my 10th episode will be going live. This is a milestone I’m very happy about. How many of the 9 episodes have you listened to? Listen to more here.
