๐ŸŽ—YELLOW MAY 2๐ŸŽ—

Heeeeeeyyyyy!!!

From that opening statement you can tell that I have so much energy. Getting to the end of May ain’t a small achievement and I need to usher June with as much energy as I can because it’s that month of the year! How have you been since the last time we met here??? Fine??? Yaay I’m genuinely happy for you! Not fine??? We live to fight another day!

Last week’s post was a head-start to the “Cancer Series”. You will get a link to it at the end of this read, so please go through it if you haven’t.

There is no established cause for Cancer. However, there are certain factors that will determine your chances of getting cancer. These factors are referred to as Risk Factors. We have control over risk factors such as usage of tobacco, alcohol consumption, what we eat, how often we exercise and several others. On the other hand, there are risk factors we don’t have control over and these are; age, sex and family history. Note that having these risk factors does not necessarily mean that you’ll get cancer.

Just like other diseases, some of Cancer symptoms may not show until it develops into advanced stages. I’m sure you know that cancer is more easily treated in its earlier stages than it is in its advanced stages. It is for this reason you need to get screened as frequently as you can-just to be on the safe side.

Screening is basically testing for presence of cancerous cells. It’s more of a cautionary measure, I mean you get screened just to be sure you are free from cancer. Women are mainly screened for cervical and breast cancer while men are screened for prostate cancer. Screening is normally done at a cost in health institutions. However, the institutions offer free screening camps once in a while, commonly in October, the month set aside for Breast Cancer awareness;this is not to say that the camps aren’t held at other times of the year.

I know I ain’t the only one who hasn’t been screened before(I’ve had several chances I could have been screened). My major reasons are; fear of the outcome and how the screening is done. If you’ve had cervical cancer screening before, I am so sure you understand me.That process is quite weird for me.

Fear of the outcome. Fear of the unknown is a struggle that requires more muscle than actually facing the known, no matter how bad it is. I’ve actually promised myself to get screened by year end, God-willing, because I can’t be preaching water and drinking wine. I would love for you to purpose to get screened if you haven’t.

Mostly, a biopsy is used to ascertain whether an individual has cancer. Common symptoms of Cancer are a lump and abnormal skin change. So a biopsy is conducted by removing part of the abnormal skin area or lump and examining it for the presence of cancer cells. Scans and blood tests are other tests that can be done while diagnosing cancer.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
