I have tried coming up with a starting sentence for this blog, on a couple of occasions this week(I typed that last week), to no avail. Don’t ask me why because I am still trying to find out!
This is a pretty dull season and we might therefore easily overlook the +es that have come with it. I compiled a list of 6 positives of this season (they definitely are more than just 6) that make me realize that God is still good and that life still moves on without that which we think it revolves around.

Is there a church that is not having online services now? In a day I get so many notifications of churches streaming their services live on Facebook, Instagram or premiering on YouTube. For me, this is the best plus that this season has brought my way, especially because of the youth services. I have been following CITAM’s services on Saturday evenings (I realize they moved to 1400hrs) and each of them has been a unique and amazing experience. We actually have regular youth services and fellowships in my church, just in case you thought otherwise. But I rarely found time to attend them, for no reason really. Now that I have so much time on my hands, I crave listening to God’s word and probably that is why the services have suddenly become an important part of my life.

Spending so much time with my siblings is definitely a plus for me, considering that for the past two years the maximum time I spent with them was slightly over a fortnight. Now everyday I have them around me and honestly this is a blessing that I really thank God for. And yees my siblings are quite annoying😒. Actually, as I type this, we’ve quarreled with my brother 7 times in the last five hours and a fortnight ago, we didn’t talk with my sister for like 2 days. So yeah these tufights happen and they strengthen the bond amongst us.

Zoom. I did not know of this app prior to this season but now I’m very grateful for it. This and other apps that have been used as platforms for the new trend that is online meetings, have made me realize just how small the world is. They usually say that the world is a global village. You probably are wondering how this is a plus;this is how. Connecting with friends and family is easier via zoom especially. You’ll argue that there has been Whatsapp video calls, Skype and all those and that’s a valid argument. However, this Kenyan internet has shown me its shady side😂with the Whatsapp calls -I haven’t tried a Skype call- but has co-operated with the Zoom calls. Also school group discussions have been made easier. If you are currently in session I know you relate.

Any of my classmates especially in Primary School, will tell you how much of a burden reporting to school on opening days was, for me. I hated everything about school and would always start the countdown to the next school break as early as the next day after reporting. This trend went on even in campus;waking up to prepare for school is such a burden for me. Ironically, the fact that I don’t like school is actually a motivating factor for me-it pushes me to put in my best effort. All this is totally beside the point.
Considering my school is having the “Emergency Remote Teaching Program”, a dolled-up name for Online Learning, I have grown to appreciate school-the physical school environment. The online classes are way better than just chilling for Rona to pack its bags and leave but also they are not as efficient as a 101 class would be. For instance, right now I’m on a Zoom call for my Stochastic Class, but because I got distracted in between the class, I can’t follow what’s happening anymore. Had I been having a physical class, I would not be distracted by my mum calling me to ask for some help or a visitor popping up and me having to prepare them a snack🤣. Also, it’s quite irritating that I’ll miss class because of petty reasons such as a black-out or unstable internet connection.
So appreciating my school environment is definitely a big plus for me and it’s sad that I had to live through a pandemic to realize how much of a blessing school actually is.

If you view my Whatsapp Statuses then you definitely have seen me ranting how much I’m tired of staying home-but then you’ll agree 5 months is a lot…yeah???
On the brighter side tho’ I feel that I have become more responsible. Balancing between my house chores, attending classes, self-studying, scrolling through Instagram😌and other trivial activities, hasn’t been easy. Well, life is never easy,is it? Out of it, I’ve become a bit more responsible and that, is definitely something to be grateful for.

New hobbies/skills. I bet you definitely knew I would have this on my list, especially if you’ve read one of my latest works. Cooking/baking has suddenly become a hobby mainly because I’m always in the house. I used to dislike cooking, leave alone baking, and this had started to worry me because who would be cooking for me once I moved out of my parents’ house? Right now, I can confidently say that I am among the self-taught quarantine chefs and for that, I am grateful.

7 of 6 because I am that extra but quite girl in the room. I started working on this blog last week, as this is what I had in store for you then, but then so many forces ganged up against this particular article. And as I add the final period on today’s read, I am grateful for finally managing to put it together.
This is my list of quarantine positives. What’s yours???
